http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/19472417/nfl-dominates-fan-audience-united-states-lacks-widespread-appeal-international-stage
The author of this article followed two different stories and brought them into one by connecting them. He wrote about how the NFL is trying to gain popularity internationally and the international accomplishments Tom Brady has made. For example, according to this article, Brady checked in at No. 21 on this year's list of the most famous active athletes in the world. The author also focused on the importance of international attention for the NFL but why it will never happen, despite the efforts they are going through. This article is newsworthy because the NFL is easily one of the, if not the most popular sports leagues in the United States. It strives to get even more fans by reaching out overseas but this article does not believe that will happen anytime soon. The reason this article does not believe the NFL will become popular internationally is "The drawback of the NFL is the domestic nature of the games played," Schwab said, "along with the television coverage and the participation at a youth level. It's not a sport that people are playing internationally, or really even seeing a lot of relatively.¨ This article is not biased but does express opinions such as the quote from Schwab. I would not consider this article to be biased, however, because it goes in-depth into the tactics the NFL is using to try to pull in international audiences and why they feel it is important to do so. The article also mentions everything Tom Brady does internationally as the face of the NFL and how he has become a popular figure not only in America, but also overseas, mainly China. After reading this article, I now realize why it is important for the NFL to gain international audiences and now know of all the efforts they are going through for it. This article also made me realize how unrealistic it is for them to gain popularity internationally and that football will probably always stay popular only in America

http://www.espn.com/blog/oakland-raiders/post/_/id/18426/derek-carr-has-complete-faith-raiders-extension-will-happen-before-training-camp
This article stayed true to facts and unbiased. All this article was about was that the Raiders won't give Derek Carr a contract extension, but he is sure they will before training camp. This was a short article and only mentioned the current deal Carr has now and what they think he deserves. This article also mentions quotes that Carr said about this deal, tweets he posted relating to his extension, and videos of him throwing. There was also a video of him showing off his curve ball, proving that he still could pitch from when he played in high school. This article is newsworthy because Derek Carr is the Raiders' franchise quarterback and needs to sign a contract extension in order to stay their quarterback for a long time. He played outstanding last season and led them to the playoffs. They probably would have made it all the way to the super bowl if only he didn't get injured just before. He is still young and has amazing potential for the rest of his (hopefully long) NFL career. The only bias this article had was they did say that Carr is a good quarterback and needs an extension. Other than that, they maintained true to what is actually happening without too many opinions of their own. The conclusion that a reader may get after reading this article is that Derek Carr is a franchise player and the Raiders would be dumb to give him up. The article showed his stats from last season and they were amazing. I truly don't know why the Raiders are delaying his contract for so long. When I read this, I already had a lot of knowledge about how good Carr is, but I didn't realize why the Raiders were waiting so long to give him an extension. I also had barely heard anything about it and wanted to learn more. This article was sure informative and helped understand the situation Carr and the Raiders are in right now. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/22/world/middleeast/trump-israel-visit.html?_r=0
This article was not very opinionated and more true to facts. The author interviewed the most relevant people and didn't disclose any of their opinions. For example, the author used mainly quotes from Donald Trump himself, which I believe makes the article more unbiased and honest. This article was about President Trump's visit to Israel and about a deal he is preparing to make with them. He is trying to make a peace agreement between Israel and Palestine, which doesn't seem likely but would be amazing if he could. The entire article stays with this topic and goes into great detail, such as how Trump is the first sitting President to visit the Western Wall. This article is incredibly newsworthy because this is our President's first travel overseas since he became president, and he is the first president to visit the Western Wall. This is major news and many other news organizations are also covering it. This trip may help relations between Israel and Palestine and may show people weather or not Trump can be a good president. Like I stated before, this article really wasn't biased. It would lead to people knowing about what is happening with the world and give them knowledge about why Trump is in Israel. This is not an opinionated article, so it shouldn't lead to much controversy except for what Trump is doing. Finally, conclusions that I have drawn just from reading this is that what Trump is doing will be pretty hard to accomplish, but if he can he would be a hero. I'm glad to see him visiting Israel because they are one of America's closest allies and according to the article, having a good relationship with them is very important. Because Trump is the very first US president to visit the Western Wall, this is very big news and I'm glad it seems to be unbiased. http://www.espn.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/234081/colin-kaepernicks-biggest-problem-performance-not-politics
This article was about how Collin Kaepernick is still a free agent and why no teams have picked him up. They say that the main reason he is unemployed is due to his terrible throwing ability and not because of his national anthem protests. The author of this article was harsh but honest and fair because he said that Kaepernick most likely isn't going to get picked up by a team because he is one of the league's least accurate quarterbacks and other free agent quarterbacks are much better than he is. The author did not interview anybody but used stats to prove his points. This article is newsworthy because the NFL is huge and fans always want to know about who is a free agent and why. Also, it proves that his career may be over due to his lack of skill and not only because of his numerous protests he did throughout the year despite many viewers' opinions. The author may be biased based on his opinions of Kaepernick and his protests, but overall the article did not seem to be biased. He used lots of stats throughout and gave many different reasons for what he was saying. Most NFL teams are more worried about a player's ability to play and how they make their team better than their political beliefs. The author also said too many fans are overthinking this and they need to realize why teams really don't want Kaepernick. The author also said that although Kaepernick is a free agent because of his poor in game performances, teams would rather have players without controversy than those who are controversial. He predicts that many other quarterbacks with the same talent will be picked up first before anyone will hire Kaepernick mainly because of all his controversy, and many fans do not like Kaepernick anymore which could lead to bad PR. When Kaepernick decided to protest the national anthem by kneeling instead of standing, he offended many Americans, sabotaged his own career, and offended many Americans. |
